The Bouqs Are For Valentine's - Even If You Hate It

Some people look forward to it, some people dread it. Either way Valentine's day is less that two weeks away people. Are you ready? Have you purchased chocolates, cards and most importantly flowers? In my mind flowers are the best Valentine's gift even if you are against Valentine's because you can always send dead flowers. It gets the message across doesn't it?

If you missed my first post about The Bouqs a few weeks ago you should definitely peak at it now. The Bouqs ship farm fresh {from the side of a volcano!} flowers straight to you. No middle man which means they'll still be snappy when they arrive at your door.

I wanted to share their beautiful red roses with you but I set myself the challenge of photographing them differently than I've ever seen before. You know red roses are like the most stereotypical, cliché flowers ever so I couldn't take any old picture and expect you to be interested. So I hung them upside down, chopped cheapest online trading platform south africa, ripped and dried them. Who hasn't thought about grabbing a rose and tearing it apart just for the hell of it? Is that just me? Well I'm fine with that. It was very satisfying and I think the results were visually intriguing as well.

Order your Valentine some flowers from Bouqs and they'll thank you. Maybe don't shred them before delivery though. Unless that's what you're going for! Hey I'd still thank you.

After they were dry - which took almost two weeks by the way{!} that's how fresh and long lasting these flowers are - I picked up some greens from Trader Joe's and made a little wreath. Something like this would be really pretty as a decoration as a party I think.

Infused Sugar and Salt | Sugar Detox | A Contradiction

I'll warn you right now this post is a giant contradiction. A friend recently told me about infused sugars and salts and I absolutely had to try it. They're amazing for a wide variety of uses. HOWEVER, I've also let my sugar cravings get widely out of control since Bones was here in October. So starting today I'm cutting out all refined/processed/etc sugars for the month of February. Except one cheat day, Valentine's obviously. That means candy, baked goods, ice cream and so forth. That said, lets talk about sugar for a bit longer.

Lavender grapefruit infused sugar:::

Zest one large grapefruit
Leave zest out for at least 8 hours or until completely dry

Use a high powered food processor to combine zest, 2 tbsp of food grade lavender and 2 cups of sugar {I used organic sugar from Trader Joe's}. Store sugar in an airtight container. Let sit for approximately one week {shake once a day to ensure even distribution of flavors} before use. Strain out zest and lavender if so desired. 


My favorite ways to eat:::
On grapefruit {duh}
Peel two blood oranges, coat in 1 tbsp infused sugar
Lightly sprinkle on freshly baked chocolate chip cookies

Lemon infused salt:::

Zest one lemon
Leave zest out for at least 8 hours or until completely dry

Use a high powered food processor to combine zest and 2 cups of sea salt {I used this}. Store salt in an airtight container. Let sit for at least one week before use. Strain out zest if so desired.

4 Years

Hello my dear friends,

It's January 31st. That means it's been 4 whole years since I wrote my first blog post and opened up my etsy shop. I absolutely cannot believe how much has changed and how fast the time's gone by. I'm so blessed by the experiences I've had, the things I've learned and most importantly for the people I've met as a result of this virtual space. Many of you have become very special to me and even though it's difficult to communicate the emotions that go along with this milestone in written form I am immensely grateful for all of you. Thank you for riding along these past four years, I'm certain the next four will be even more exciting.

Weekend Adventures | What I Wore

Recently I've been trying to step outside the routine of daily life. Not having a car really limits where I can go so I've been walking a different direction to the same place, taking streets I've never had a reason to go down before and seeking out new areas of the city to explore. There's always something new to see if you're looking for it. I saw this quote recently that really resonated with me::: "Your life unfolds in proportion to your courage." Last year was a strange year for me. Full of trial and error, new beginnings, discovery and failure. Maybe I'll write more about that soon. But for now, I'm in love with this pond and the surrounding area The Beard and I discovered.

Black Lace from Vienne Milano

I'm going to make this simple: pantyhose are a pain in the ass, thigh highs are miraculous.

Lets be honest ladies, no one likes wearing tights. They're uncomfortable, squeeze in places we don't want to be squeezed, leave unappealing marks, and make using the restroom a horrific time-consuming operation. I tried thigh highs one other time but it was a "you get what you pay for" situation and didn't turn out well. Recently I heard someone else mention how great Vienne Milano's thigh highs are and figured I'd give them another chance - anything to avoid those lines on my stomach. Life changing. Vienne's stockings are beautiful, quality, comfortable and simple. They're easy to put on and the silicone band at the top keeps them from falling down without pinching. I had no idea what I'd been missing out on. I'm so relieved to not have to wear tights anymore - thinking I may burn the ones I have...

Winter in CA | 29 Palms + Joshua Tree Offroading

This is just a little follow up from my most recent activewear post. The Beard and I traveled to California a few days at the end of December and while we were there we got to spend a day out in the desert. Off roading is one of my favorite things to do {I've owned two jeep wranglers in the past} so we did that and we also got to shoot some pretty cool guns. Have you ever shot a gun? I know it's controversial subject but under the right circumstances it's really fun.

Chia Seed Pudding for Breakfast

Since I quit baking school I haven't really done an official real life update. So in case you don't follow me on instagram I'll give you the quick version. In July I was invited to an event at a hair studio downtown and I basically never left. Pretty much work and live there full time now. I've become the owner's persistent shadow and I absolutely love every minute. It's cool shit.

All that to say that I don't have much time to make meals at home anymore but I do try to make a few things to bring to work with me so I'm not eating out all the time. One of my new favorite things is chia seed pudding for breakfast. It's so easy to make, it's full of healthy nutrients {more info here and here in case you don't know about chia seeds} and gives me that energy boost I need to get the day started.


1.5 cup almond milk {I use unsweetened vanilla from Trader Joe's}
2  tbsp honey {raw wildflower honey from Boston Honey Co. at Whole Foods}
6-8 tbsp chia seeds {bought in bulk at WF from The Chia Co.}
Berries or nuts for topping

Combine all ingredients in a plastic or glass container with a lid. Stir thoroughly and allow to sit overnight before eating. 
Pudding can be stored in the fridge for up to a week.

Nike | JD Sports | Millet Sports | Joshua Tree

I've been so happy about having the opportunity to move away from California, and I'm so in love with Boston, that I'd forgotten how much I enjoy the desert. The actual desert. The vast expanse of wide open space. There's a sort of sublime tranquility out there.

While The Beard and I were visiting at the end of December we spent a day out in Joshua Tree and 29 Palms {more on what we did later}. It was the perfect day for layering up because of the chilly breeze and I was so glad I had my Nike fitness gear to wear as a base layer. At this point I've tried quite a few different brands for sportswear and Nike is consistently my favorite. I especially love their pants {for running and training} and their pull-over tops.
